Because the weather is beginning to drop in temperature, PE classes have moved inside. One teacher utilizes the "PE palace" ( a learning trailer) while the other two classes share time in the gym. During the month of November, Greer students have been working hard to demonstrate our character trait of the month, 'gratitude'. Because of the temperature and the schedule, some 5th and Kindergarten classes have been working together during their PE class time in the gym. It is wonderful to see 5th grade students showing their leadership and 'buddying' up with a Kindergarten student. We believe the 5th graders and the Kindergarten students feel gratitude toward each other as they build relationships and learn from one another. Mrs. Tharp and Mrs. Carpenter feel a lot of pride when we see our students working together.

f4th and 5th grade students have set personal fitness goals in areas they would like to improve. The personal fitness goals are based on student performance and standards outlined on the fitnessgram tests conducted physical education classes from 4th-10th grade. One way to improve fitness scores is to PRACTICE! Here's one activity Mrs. Carpenter's class played to work on their fitness skills. You can play this at home with minor adjustments!
Watch our amazing geckos show their skills in this cup stacking video. The video was recorded and edited by Mrs. Carpenter. As always, students should check with an adult before viewing any videos from the internet. Please remember youtube occasionally places advertisements before, during, and after videos. A popular song called "The Cup Song" uses only the singer and a cup to make the beat of the song. Here is Mrs. Carpenter leading a tutorial on how to learn the pattern of the beat for the song. You'll have to ask Mr. Tilman or Mrs. Hoffar to sing the lyrics for you! You can practice this at home with stacking cups, a stadium cup (like Mrs. Carpenter), or any sturdy NON-GLASS cup you have. Glass cups may break from the pressure of being picked up and put down. Be careful and have fun! Greer is participating in the Guinness World Record Cup Stacking challenge on November 12th! This week students will practice stacking by learning common competitive patterns like 3-3-3 and 3-6-3. Students have the opportunity to purchase their own cups through a group order! Look for a brochure and a letter coming home with students if you are interested in stacking at home. The letter and brochure detail the process for buying. There are a ton of great online tutorials demonstrating cup stacking patterns, students be sure to ask an adult before visiting any new website.
Mrs. Bond's and Mrs. Carpenter's 3-5 grade classes learned "Catapult". This game works on throwing, blocking, running and fitness skills like curl-ups. Fourth and Fifth graders recently wrote personal fitness goals so Catapult was a great way for students to make progress toward their goals.
