It is a busy time at Greer Elementary. The teachers celebrated a successful reading night with over 300 students and family members in attendance. In PE students are participating in Winter Wonderland stations and the 5th graders are preparing for their basketball game against the staff on Friday...It should be a lot of fun.

Our third grade students worked in small groups to watch and assess a peer completing the chest pass. Students used a skill rubric, just as their teachers do, to identify the areas of strength and growth for their peers. We love to see our students working together and using their brains to analyze skills in P.E. Way to go, third grade!
Recently, Mrs. Bond's classes learned history through PE by practicing dance steps from the traditional Virginia Reel. Take a look at the video below to watch our awesome Geckos in action. As always, students should check with an adult before viewing any videos from the internet. Please remember youtube occasionally places advertisements before, during, and after videos. Today our Bright Stars classes were lucky enough to be visited by volunteers from the Army. The men and women who volunteered helped our Bright Stars students participate in relay races that involved building towers. We are so grateful to those who serve our country. Thank you to our awesome volunteers!
We know all our Greer Geckos will be 'passing math' because they are so smart! This is a play on words in PE, though, because our K-2 classes worked on basketball passes while learning and refreshing basic math facts. Students found a spot and flipped it over to reveal a number or math problem. Then students worked together to solve the math problem. Lastly, students passed the number of times they found to be their solution. For example, students who see the math problem 12-2 would pass 10 times. It is always awesome to see classroom academic subjects like math, reading, writing, science and language integrate with exercise. Did you know that regular exercise can actually improve cognitive functioning?
Mr. Tilman and Ms. Eddins' 5th grade class entered a contest to win $5,000! They submitted a video of the 5th graders singing and playing instruments to the Michael and Son's jingle. To win the $5,000 Greer needs to have more votes than the other schools listed! You can vote once a day-- so get voting! Share the link with your relatives, friends, and neighbors! We need all the help we can get!
